Watch Ben Askren Smash Through Shinya Aoki At ONE: Immortal Pursuit
Ben Askren retired undefeated in Singapore last evening, but not before he put another Asian MMA legend to the sword at ONE: Immortal Pursuit.
“Funky” made light work of Shinya Aoki who ate a big right hand on the feet before attempting to pull guard after 24-seconds. Askren was wise to tactics though and he slammed the Japanese legend on his back before firing down another right hand to the side of his head.
With Aoki now in deep trouble, Askren composed himself before propping up and landing further bombs to both the side of his head and then the body. With Aoki turtled up and not defending himself, the referee called the fight and Askren celebrated with his arms in the air.

Speaking backstage after the fight, Askren was happy with his performance, but joked he was disappointed to have been hit for the first time in three fights.
“I think it was fantastic, but I do think I got hit once though when I came in with the right hand and he came in over the top,” Askren said. “I said 2017 was the year of not getting hit, but I was off by one.
“I was quite surprised when he pulled and let me hit over the top on the bottom. I don’t think he expected me to hit so hard. I connected with a lot of power punches. I don’t think he liked that right hand that I hit him with in the first five-seconds. I don’t think he liked that.”
