Justin Gaethje Looking To 'Finish Eddie Alvarez Violently' To Get A Title Shot

Justin Gaethje is a former World Series Of Fighting champion, but he’s now got eyes on the 155-pounds belt in the UFC and he’s got a plan for how he’s going to get a crack at the champion, Conor McGregor.

Gaethje takes on Eddie Alvarez at UFC 218 in just 11 days time and he’s currently out in Las Vegas putting the finishing touches on his camp. Speaking yesterday to MMAJunkie Radio, Gaethje said that he was still working hard in the gym and hadn’t even thought about winding down ahead of the fight

“Nope, last week of training, it’s actually why I’m here for, it’s to get it,” Gaethje said. “I came here to get it in and get some training partners. I got some great training partners, back home, but once I get towards the end of a camp [they can’t train].

“No, I got great partners, but they got fights too so we cant beat the s*it out of each other too much.”

“I was at the PI this morning. I went and ran a couple of miles. We’re going to go to Xtreme Couture later and get some sparring in. I’m going to get a round in with Ali [Abdelaziz], he’s going to get some, and then Alexander Almeida is going to come in.”

Gaethje’s debut was a brutal back and forth clash with Michael Johnson at The Ultimate Fighter Season 25 Finale last July. UFC fans got a taste of Gaethje’s unique brand of fighting for the first time and he’s promising that there’s plenty of it come.

“When I’m done, I’m going to be known as one of the most violent motherf*ckers in the sport,” Gaethje said. “The most entertaining [also]. With that comes money for sure, especially in the UFC because they appreciate that effort.

“I give them max effort every time I step in there.”

While entertaining the fans is important to him, ultimately Gaethje wants to hold the UFC title. His plan to get a title shot certainly play to his strengths and he’s looking to finish Alvarez in devastating fashion when the Octagon door closes.

“The belt? I’m looking to step towards that,” Gaethje said. “I feel like I vacated a belt that I defended eight times, so I’m in the process of trying to get the one that I’m fighting for right now. It’s one fight at a time though and now I got to go out there, and it’s all about how you finish nowadays.

“There’s plenty of guys that have a claim at the title, but it’s all about who’s going to earn it and who’s going to finish.”

“If I go out there and finish Eddie violently, the reason Conor McGregor is Conor McGregor is because he talks the way he does, he’s a genius, but he also knocked Jose Aldo out in 13-seconds, that helped a lot. Finishing everyone he’s finished helps a lot. Going in there, I just got to finish people . I go in there and I finish Eddie Alvarez like I know I can, and like I should, then whatever, it should be a number one contender spot and that’s what I’m fighting for.
