Colby Covington Pressing Charges Against Fabricio Werdum Over Alleged Assault

UFC welterweight Colby Covington has spoken to authorities in Australia about pressing charges against former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum after an altercation occurred late Wednesday night.

There have been two conflicting stories about what unfolded but one source indicated that Covington was on his phone in the lobby of the UFC’s host hotel in Sydney, Australia when Werdum allegedly punched him without provocation, which then led to security intervening between the fighters.

Meanwhile, Werdum claims that he never punched Covington but instead it was the welterweight contender who insulted him as he was walking by so he slapped the phone out of his hand. In response, Werdum claims that Covington kicked him.

Outside the hotel after the initial incident happened, Werdum then threw a boomerang at Covington as caught on tape by fellow UFC fighter Dan Hooker.

Now sources have said that Covington contacted local authorities in Australia over the matter and intends on pressing charges against Werdum for the alleged assault.

According to those same sources, police have already spoken to Covington about the assault and retrieved security camera footage from the hotel where the incident unfolded.

UFC officials have previously stated that they are conducting an internal investigation into the matter, but now it appears local authorities have been contacted regarding the incident.

Werdum is scheduled to fight in the main event at UFC Fight Night in Australia on Saturday and there’s no word if this incident could cause problems with that event.
